Frequently Asked Questions

I am experiencing slow broadband speeds, what can I do to resolve this?

To enjoy the best speeds we always recommend you connect to your modem using a cable. But we recognise that in busy homes with everyone online at the same time using various wireless devices, that that isn't always possible.

If you believe you are receiving slow speeds, then follow these simple steps:

1. Perform a reboot on your modem. To do this, unplug your modem from the power source for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. It's as simple as that.

2. Once you have rebooted, please run a test on our speed tool, to determine what speed you are curently receiving. The most accurate speed test results will be obtained on a direct connection so please make sure you have an RJ45 (Ethernet) cable connected directly from your modem to your computer before performing the reboot. Connect this cable to any Ethernet port on your modem or TV box.

If the speed-test result is lower than expected, follow these quick and simple steps:

Limit how many devices in your home are online at once
Got a house full of laptops, smartphones and tablets? If they're all online at the same time, then they're likely to slow each other down as they share the same broadband connection.

Check the speed limits of your device
Wi-Fi speeds are capped on some devices. Check the specifications of your device to see if it's capable of achieving the expected speeds.

Scan your computer for viruses
It's now pretty easy to banish most viruses, malware and spyware from slowing down your computer and ultimately your broadband speed. We recommend that you install anti-virus protection on your computer. These can be downloaded and installed easily to your computer from the Internet and the protection offered is instant.

Use the latest browser version
Latest web browser versions are already optimised for faster Internet browsing, so the more up to date your web browser, the faster your connection is likely to be. Plus, more recent version will have enhanced security features, and other benefits. We suggest that you download the latest version of your particular web browser from the manufacturer's web site.

Check that there are no other programs running in the background
If you have programmes uploading or downloading information in the background e.g Bittorrent or Youtube, it will impact the results of your speed test.  Make sure all such programmes are shut down before performing a speed test.

Change your wireless channel
